Overview
As digital assessments become more integral to personalized learning, platforms like iReady have introduced secure testing enviroments to ensure academic integrity. The LockDown Browser extension for Chromebooks is one tool, designed to restrict student access to other tabs, apps, or functions during diagnostic and standards-based assessments.
This article explores how students will access the extension during testing, and provides a few troubleshooting tips.
Student Experience for Chromebook
Note: The student experience is very similar to what students experience without the secure browser.
1. Students log in to the Chromebook and access i-Ready as they normally would.
2. Students then click on the i-Ready Diagnostic, Assessment of Spanish Reading (ASR), or Growth Monitoring assessment and a new, full screen window will open where the secure browser will begin loading.
3. After it finishes loading, students will see their assessment in the new secure browser window.
4. Students can exit the assessment by clicking on the X in the top right corner.
Troubleshooting - Chromebook LockDown Browser Extension
The student will see the following error when secure browser is enabled for the student’s school and a student Diagnostic, Assessment of Spanish Reading (ASR), or Growth Monitoring is assigned to them but the extension is not active.
1. Open a student Chromebook and verify that the installation was successful by checking that “i-Ready LockDown Browser” is listed under Extensions. You may need to click Manage Extensions to view full list.
2. Click i-Ready LockDown Browser” to launch it on the student device.
Please submit a ticket to the KIPP IT-Ed Tech Applications department to investigate if the extension is not visible in the students chromebook browser.
