Overview
Clever Portal supports adding links to other digital resources that are used in the classroom. External links work just like bookmarks, providing one-click navigation to digital resources. You can customize external link visibility based on user type, grade level, and school sites.
These custom external link applications are links that lead users to application login pages, but users are not logged in automatically. An example might be setting up a link that leads to your district's Learning Management System (LMS) or student information system (SIS). If these programs are not currently integrated with Clever, users would need to manually enter their login credentials.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Clever District Admin/School Tech Leads/Teachers - These roles can create individual custom sections for teacher/staff users requesting access to a custom student roster.
- KTX Applications department - Can be contacted for troubleshooting purposes.
Pre-Requisites to execute steps under Where to Start
(Make sure to review before you proceed to where to start)
- Your must have Clever access with the Clever District Admin/School Tech Lead/Teacher roles to have permission to create custom link in Clever portals.

How to Create Custom External Links: District Admin/School Tech Leads
Clever District Admins/School Tech Leads can create external links to be shared to the school(s) selected, can filter by user type (Student/Teacher/Staff/Guardians), and by student grade level. Once the external link is published, it will be visible to selected filters used upon set up, and can only be modified or removed by district admins/school tech leads .
Note: School Tech Leads will only have access to the schools they are assigned to in Clever.
Step 1: Log in to Clever and navigate to Portal (located on the top right corner)
Step 2: Click Custom Portal
- then click +Add a new category
Step 3: Click Add Link next to the the category under which you want the new link to appear.
If a category is not present, click +Add Category to create one.
Step 4: Select the last option in the Add a Link menu.
Step 5: Enter the requested information into the appropriate fields.
- Select a generic icon or upload a custom icon.
- To upload a custom icon, select Upload to search for the appropriate image from your desktop. Images must be in the .png file format, and less than 2MB. The optimal icon size is 200 x 200 pixels.
- Select which user types, grades, and schools you would like to have access to this custom link.
- Select Add Link.
Step 6: Click Publish Changes at the top right corner when you are finished.
How to Create Custom External Links: Teachers
Step 1: Log in to your Clever Teacher Portal
Step 2: Click Add & Share on the bottom of your Teacher Page and click Link.
- If a teacher page has not been created, click Add & Page located at the bottom right corner of your Clever Portal My Teacher Pages.
Step 3: Complete the required fields in the Add Link menu.
- A menu will display to the right allowing you to paste the URL for the page this link should direct to, which should always begin with HTTPS://
- Enter a Title to help your students locate the link.
- Choose a category for your link.
- Select one of the provided icons to represent your link, or upload your own icon!
- To upload your own icon, click Upload to search for the appropriate image from your desktop. Images must be in the .png file format and less than 2 megabytes.
- Click Add link
Note: When you add a link, the icon will have a little link icon in the top right corner, so you'll know it's a link. This little identifier on the icon isn't visible to students.
